Junior betting challenge week 3: Mr Fixit v Ladbrokes

TREBLES put up by Mr Fixit and Ladbrokes’ Dean McPherson bombed badly last week – but the tipsters were in good company.

Four draws out of five in the West Super League was great news for bookies and a shocker for punters.

And some of them were hard to explain. Pollok couldn’t score one at home to Glenafton after hitting Perthshire for seven, Auchinleck were held at home to a Beith side who had conceded eight goals at home to Clydebank and Irvine Meadow. And possibly most surprising of all Kilbirnie were trounced at home to Largs three days after beating them 3-0 in the Ayrshire Cup.

In fact, results were so bad no one managed to pick a winning treble in the Ladbrokes contest – so those magnificent prizes are carried forward a week.

There are £1286 of betting vouchers to be won on Saturday. So get your entries in by posting your own treble at the end of this article. For rules see article on the site.

Both tipsters will be going to head all season but neither has hit the target yet. Mr Fixit and Dean McPherson will be hoping for better luck as the East leagues kick off.

Mr Fixit writes: It’s a case of must do better this weekend after last week’s results.

In week one I started my line with Clydebank who won 4-1 at Beith and I see no reason to desert them this weekend as they make the short trip to Ashfield.

There’s a big rivalry between the clubs after Ashfield pipped Bankies to the First Division title on goal difference two seasons ago. They came up together and both finished in the top half last season so there’s not much between them.

However, Bankies won 3-1 at Saracen Park in the Sectional League Cup and look set up to play well away from home, hitting on the break at pace.

Ashfield will always give it 100 per cent and beat Arthurlie 2-1 in their home opener but Stevie Rankin’s side may find it tougher to pick up points in what looks a really tight league. So it’s Bankies for me at a very decent 6-4 at Ladbrokes.

Dean’s the expert in the East but I’m turning my attention to the big kick-off through there and backing two of the title favourites to get off to a flyer.

I’m assuming Dean and his team have got the prices right so I’m on champions Bonnyrigg at 1-2 at home to St Andrews. Rose struggled past Girvan in the Scottish Cup last week but I watched them on their way to the Emirates semis last season and was impressed.

They’re a side that’s always looking to go forward and the addition of Kris Renton will make them even more potent up top.

Linlithgow should be challenging the likes of Bonnyrigg and Bo’ness for the title and I like the look of them at 2-5 at home to Carnoustie.

They’ll always get goals from Tommy Coyne and are difficult to beat on their home patch. Rose will have designs on making a title assault so must get off to a hot start.

Dean writes: Well, folks, last week was poor for me and I will hold my hands up for that as there was lots of draws on the coupon.

But this is the week I have waited for, the return of the East fixtures. This is where I come into my own.

My three selections all come from the East this weekend and I’m starting with Bo’ness at 4-5 away to Broxburn.

The BUs have made some astute signings especially Steven Hislop who will do well in the juniors and I think they will start the season with a comfortable win.

My second selection will be from the East Premier League where I have opted for Tayport at 11-10 away to beat Oakley. I believe Oakley have lost some of their players from last year and will struggle this season.

Finally I have gone for Linlithgow at 2-5 at home to beat Carnoustie. Linlithgow have been flying in pre-season and will start with three points. Good luck everyone.
